Solomon Demeke is Professor of Poultry Production and Animal Nutrition at Jimma University College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (JUCAVM). He has served as head of department, research coordinator, assistant dean and dean of JUCAVM, member of the Board of Directors of Jimma University Community School, Coffee Plantation Development Enterprise and the Bedele Brewery Share Company. Solomon was a national consultant of two FAO-projects and local project director of three consecutive CIDA-funded international projects. He is particularly known for the development of hay box chick brooding technology. He was awarded the International Foundation for Science/King Baudouin Award for Outstanding Research Work, Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship at Texas Technical University, National Award for Best Achievement in Science and Technology in Ethiopia, EIAR Award for meritorious achievements in agricultural research and Award of the Silver Jubilee of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Addis Ababa University. He is recipient of Degree of Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa for an outstanding personal achievement, on May 9, 2014, from Dalhousie University, Halifax Canada. He has published extensively in the area of poultry production and animal nutrition.
