We are deeply saddened to hear the news that Prof. Getachew Tilahun, Fellow of Ethiopian Academy of Sciences has passed away.
Prof. Getachew was Professor of Veterinary Parasitology at Aklilu Lemma Institute of Pathobiology (ALIPB), Addis Ababa University, where he also served as Director. Prof. Getachew received his M.V.Sc. from University of Saskatchewan, Canada. He served as Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, AAU. Among other learned societies, he was Member of Southeastern Society of Parasitologists (USA). He was also a Member of Technical Advisory Committee, Southern Rift Valley Tsetse Eradication Project.
He was a recipient of the Agriculture Canada Fellowship Award (1980) and Fulbright Senior Research Scholar Award (1992). Prof. Getachew published extensively in national and international journals (mainly in parasitic zoonosis).
Funeral Services will be held today 3 December 2018 at 12:00 noon, Lebu St. Gabriel Church. The Academy extends its most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Prof. Getachew Tilahun.
