EAS Founding Fellow Professor Taffa Tulu Passed

It is with profound sadness that EAS heard the news of the passing away of Professor Taffa Tulu, EAS Founding Fellow, on May 02, 2018 at the age of 61.

It is with profound sadness that EAS heard the news of the passing away of Professor Taffa Tulu, EAS Founding Fellow, on May 02, 2018 at the age of 61.

Taffa Tulu was Professor of Hydrology and Water Resource Management at the Center for Environmental Sciences of Addis Ababa University. He was a recipient of American Medal of Honor, and Fellow of the Alexander Von Humboldt Foundation. He was Associate Editor of the Ethiopian Journal of Natural Resources and of the East African Journal of Science.

Professor Taffa  worked as a lecturer (1980 – 1988), an Assistant Professor (Sept. 1990 – Nov. 1994) and an Associate Professor (Dec. 1994 – Sept. 1995) at Ambo College (Ethiopia); a Senior Researcher (October 1996 – November 1997) at Rostock University (Germany).

He also served as a Consultant in water resource management for Green Focus Ethiopia P.L.C (May 2005 – Feb. 2006) on Agricultural Water Management for the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) (March 2006 – August 2006)

Professor Taffa also served as Professor of Hydrology and Water Resource Engineering at Haromaya University (Sept. 2006 – Dec. 2007) and Adama Science and Technology University (Jan. 2008 – Dec. 2011).  Besides teaching and research, he was a Vice-President for Research and Postgraduate Studies (July 2008 – Dec. 2011) at Adama Science and Technology University. 

Ethiopian Academy of Sciences extends its sincere condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of Professor Taffa Tulu. His funeral service will be held on May 03, 2018 at Ambo Kidanemihret Church, Ambo town.
