Workneh Ayalew is a senior research scientist at the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) in Ethiopia. He holds a PhD degree (2000) in animal production and breeding from the Georg-August University of Goettingen, Germany; MSc degree (1992) in animal breeding from the Alemaya University of Agriculture, and BSc (Honors, 1984) in animal sciences, from Addis Ababa University. He had led the Livestock Value Chains programme of the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Agency (ATA) and served in various senior management positions in international and national agricultural research institutions. Workneh has been a fellow of the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences since October 2017.
