Berga Lamaga established the International Potato Center -Ethiopia Office. As Director of Research and Extension, ATA, he played a key role in the establishment of the Ethiopian Agricultural Research Council and the Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology-Ethiopia Chapter. He served as Regional Potato Project Leader and Leader of the CIP-Uganda Office; as coordinator of Regional Potato and Sweet Potato Improvement Network in ten Eastern & Central African countries; and as Leader of the Ethiopian Potato Improvement Project for the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research. He was recognized by the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research in 2016, the 7th African Potato Association and the Crop Science Department of Makerere University for his significant contributions. He has numerous publications.
