Congratulations!

The Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (EAS) conveys a congratulatory message to Yonas Beyene (PhD), one of its fellows, for being elected as an international member of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) for his outstanding work in the field of Archeology and Anthropology.

According to the National Academy’s bylaw, the selection of members begins with the nomination process, followed by an extensive and careful screening process, which is held at the Academy’s annual meeting in April each year. In an email sent on 3/5/2022, the Academy announced that it has accepted the membership request of Dr. Yonas in recognition of his outstanding contribution and original research activities at the General Assembly held on May 3 this year.

Yonas Beyene is the Director of the Konso Paleontological Research project. He discovered and published the world’s earliest Acheulean technology and its evolution between 1.75 and 0.8 million years before the present. He served as Associate Professor at the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris and as Academic Research Vice President of Wolqite University. He was member of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, representing Ethiopia. He has published extensively.
