Alula Pankhurst

Alula Pankhurst is Ethiopia Country Director of Young Lives, a research project under the auspices of Oxford University. He was Associate Professor at Addis Ababa University, where he also served as Department Chairperson. He is member of a number of learned societies, and received several research awards, notably the ‘Research in Developing Countries Award’ Justus-Liebig University, Giessen, Germany, and the French Red Cross Research Prize for research in social anthropology and engagement in combatting poverty of children and youth. He has published extensively on several subjects, including migration and resettlement, marginalised craftworker minorities, customary justice, food security and social protection.
