Almaz Abebe

Almaz Abebe is a virologist by training and works at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI). She obtained her MSc and PhD in Virology from Karolinska Institute, University of Stockholm, Sweden and Academic Medical Centre (AMC), University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, respectively. She has been working as Senior Research Advisor at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), focal person for Rotavirus surveillance, chairperson of the Sub-committee of National Task Force for Poliovirus Containment and chairperson of the National Research Council Technique Committee at the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST). In the past, she served at EPHI as Director of Infectious and Non-Infectious Diseases Research Directorate and focal person for EPHI and CDC joint project on HIV/AIDS/STI and TB. She is a recipient of Gold Medal and Certificate of Recognition in Senior Public Health Research from Ethiopian Public Health Association (EPHA). She is founding member and former President of the Ethiopian Public Health Laboratory Professionals Association (EPHLA and member of the International Organization for Women in Science. Dr. Almaz has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals in the area of virology and other infectious diseases in collaboration with other researchers.
