Alemu Yami is currently animal feeds and livestock officer at FAO- Ethiopia. He obtained his PhD in Animal Nutrition and Physiology from the University of Goettingen, Germany (1987). He has more than 30 years of research, teaching and development experience in various national and international research and development institutions. He was visiting scholar at various universities in Germany and the USA. He served as associate professor of Animal Nutrition and Physiology, head of the Department of Animal Sciences, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and member of the University Senate at the Alemaya University. He has helped initiate a number of graduate studies programs through collaboration with other partners. He was also senior researcher and national coordinator of the Aviary research program at the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR). Dr. Alemu served as Vice President and Secretary of the Ethiopian Society of Animal Production (ESAP); Associate Editor of the Ethiopian Journal of Animal Production (EJAP). He has received many awards, fellowships and certificates of recognition for meritorious services to animal science. He has published extensively in international and national peer-reviewed journals and proceedings; authored or co-authored several books, book chapters, manuals, technical bulletins and extension materials.
