Afework Bekele is Professor at the Departments of Biology and Zoological Sciences at AAU. He is also Adjunct Professor at the University of Oslo. At AAU, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Science; senate member; graduate program stream advisor and Chairman of the academic committee at the Department of Zoological Sciences. He was President of the Ethiopian Biological Society and Director of the Zoological Natural History Museum. He has published extensively.
