Abebe Getahun is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Zoological Sciences at AAU. Currently, he is the Regional Co-Chairman (Northeast Africa) for the Wetlands International/IUCN SSC Freshwater Fish Specialist Group. He served as President of Pan African Fish and Fisheries Association; as Associate Dean of Continuing Education at AAU; and as Vice President of Alpha University College. He is founding member and Vice President of the Ethiopian Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Association and member of the Biological Society of Ethiopia. He has published extensively.
