The Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (EAS) is established with the objectives of advancing scientific knowledge in Ethiopia and providing evidence-based advice to the Government of Ethiopia on issues of national significance.

The Academy is accepting applications for the anticipated training workshop on Research Project Cycle Management and Research Communication that will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Workshop is for Ethiopian emerging and young female researchers who are engaged in research works in Reproductive Health and Right Issues, who are interested in broadening their knowledge and skill in research project management and research communication skills, and committed to inform policy process and decision making.

Training Workshop Overview

The Workshop aims to help participants:

  • Strengthen the skills to effectively manage research projects and understand how research and program results can influence policy;
  • Understand research communication protocols, means of communication, and legal frameworks, and also know how to use and manage various research communications platforms/outlets including journals, websites, books, and other Social Media;
  • Learn how to be strategic in policy communication approaches in order to influence policy making;
  • Develop effective communication skills for giving compelling evidence-based oral presentations to policy audiences;

The Workshop will be rigorous and highly participatory with group learning environment and interactive sessions.

Who should apply?

The Workshop targets emerging and young female researchers who are engaged in research works in Reproductive Health and Right Issues. An individual working as researcher and/or research project manager in higher education institutions, research institutions, public health institutes and any health affiliated research organizations are encouraged to apply.

To be considered as participants, applicants must:

  • Have Masters or PhD degrees in Reproductive Health and Right issues, Public Health and/or others;
  • Be emerging and young female research under the age of 40;
  • Have more than five years of extensive working experience in research activities related to public health (Reproductive Health and Right issues);
  • Be committed to communicating research outputs to inform policy process and decision making;
  • Be proficient in communicating both in Amharic and English languages; 
  • Be based in Ethiopia, actively engaged in research activity and available for the training on December 26-30, 2022.

Desired requirements

  • At least one research publication in Reproductive Health (RH) and Right issue (public health related topics);
  • Currently involved in health related research projects and grant permission from his/her organization.

The application will be closed by Dec. 8, 2022. Applicants selected for the workshop will be contacted by email and telephone call.

Cost of workshop

There is no participation fee to attend the training workshop. All participants’ cost will be covered by the host (EAS) including cost of trainer, lunch and morning and afternoon refreshments and certification. Participants coming from regional states will be covered for transportation and six nights’ accommodation. Participants based in Addis Ababa will receive transportation allowance.
