Prof. Tegegne Gebre-Egziabher

Tegegne Gebre-Egziabher is a professor of Urban and Regional Development and Planning
at Addis Ababa University in the Department of Geography and environmental studies. He
obtained his PhD from the Ohio State University.
He has taught at the University for many years and advised several students at PhD and
masters level. Formerly, he was the director of the Institute of Development Research (1997-
2000) and director of the Institute of Development and Policy Research (2014-16) at Addis
Ababa University. Tegegne has a track record in undertaking both research and research
management. In terms of research, he has been engaged in creative research and published in
peer reviewed journals, conference proceedings and book chapters and research reports. The
research projects were funded by regional and international organizations and were obtained
competitively. His research areas include Urbanization (urban policies, urban poverty and
rural urban linkages), Institutions, Governance and Decentralization (decentralized
governance, institution setting), Regional Development; Micro and Small Enterprises and
Local Economic Development, Population, Migration and Development.
He is a founding member of the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences and a member of the Social
Science Working Group under the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences.
