Bekele Gutema is a Professor of philosophy at Addis Ababa University, College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities. His areas of interest in teaching and research are in African, intercultural, social and political philosophy. He teaches courses in these areas to graduate students (M. A. & PhD.) and supervises dissertations. His publications are in these areas. In addition to the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences, he is member of various learned societies including the Ethiopian Philosophical Association, the Vienna Society for Intercultural Philosophy, the Oromo Research Association and others. He is the winner of several awards including the Fulbright Fellowship and the Fellowship of the Asian and African Area Studies at Kyoto University.
