The UNESCO Addis Ababa Office Head of Science, Technology and Innovation, Mr. Hambani Masheleni visited the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (EAS) recently, at the invitation of the Academy.
Prof. Teketel Yohannes, Executive Director of the EAS and his team extended a warm welcome to him and Prof. Teketel provided a detailed overview of the Academy’s history, establishment, objectives, and the various initiatives it has carried out since its foundation.
During the visit, both institutions discussed about how they can use sciences as a vehicle to drive development and innovation in Ethiopia and how they will continue working closely.
Mr. Masheleni described that UNESCO is frequently working on education, science, technology, innovation, culture, communication and information to foster mutual understanding and respect for our planet. He also mentioned that UNESCO works to strengthen the organizations that are working on education, science, culture, science communication and journalism.
Finally, Mr. Masheleni visited the EAS Centers, including the Creative Art Center, STEM Center, Science Exhibits, and press products. He expressed that the EAS is a wonderful place to advance sciences and contribute to the development of Ethiopia and Africa, a beacon of hope for the future.
