Prof. Derege Kebede Tesema

Prof. Derege has over 40 years of experience in medicine, epidemiology, and public health. He played a pivotal role in establishing the African Health Observatory at the World Health Organization. He has served as faculty and chair of the Dept of Community Health at AAU, and in 1999, became Ethiopia’s first Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health. He has been President of the Ethiopian Public Health Association and Editor-in-Chief of its journal. His academic contributions include over 135 papers and seven books. He holds a Doctor of Science degree from Harvard University and a Doctor of Medicine Degree from AAU. He has received a gold medal for health research from EPHA.
