EtYAS inducts 14 new fellows



The Ethiopian Young Academy of Sciences (EtYAS) held its third induction ceremony at the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (EAS) headquarters, welcoming 14 new Fellows. The cohort comprises 12 men and 2 women, representing diverse fields of expertise.

Prof. Teketel Yohannes, Executive Director of EAS, opened the workshop, underscoring the significance of EtYAS in building the scientific community in Ethiopia.

Each new Fellow delivered a presentation showcasing their research and academic accomplishments.

Emeritus Professor Masresha Fetene, Co-President of the InterAcademy Partnerships (IPA), delivered an insightful keynote address on the roles of Academies of Sciences in basic science research.

Prof. Workabeba Abebe, Co-Chair of EtYAS, shared her inspiring experiences in research and publication.

Dr. Birhanu Beshah, Co-Chair of EtYAS, outlined three strategic priorities for the organization’s future: building institutional capacity, reconfiguring EtYAS objectives and digitizing the working system.

Finally, Dr. Tesfemariam Berhe, Dr. Shigdaf Mekuriaw, and Dr. Messay Gebremariam joined the Executive Committee to strengthen EtYAS’s capacity.
