Dr. Jean-Renaud BOISSERIE

Dr. Jean-Renaud Boisserie is a paleontologist who studies the evolution of large African mammals, and a CNRS senior researcher based at the French Centre for Ethiopian Studies (Addis Ababa). He is a world-renowned specialist semiaquatic megaherbivores including the two extant species of hippopotamuses, particularly important in African ecosystems. He notably revised the evolutionary history of this group. Since 2006, he has been leading the Omo Group Research Expedition, an international research program that deciphers the relationships between the biological and behavioral evolution of vertebrates and the evolution of paleoenvironments in the Lower Omo Valley (south-western Ethiopia).
