Professor Asrat Worku earned his BS and MS degrees from AAU and a PhD degree in civil engineering from the University of Wuppertal, Germany. He has a total of 42 years of academic and industrial experience. He is currently a professor of geotechnical engineering at Addis Ababa University (AAU). His research areas include soil-structure interaction, geotechnical earthquake engineering and landslides. Dr Worku was the OM for geotechnics and materials at Gibb International, Nairobi, Kenya, from June 2009 to October 2015 and worked as a full-time senior geotechnical engineer in major regional infrastructure projects in East African nations and beyond. He published in renowned peer-reviewed journals and serves as a reviewer for different journals, most notably those published by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
