Hans Hurni is Professor Emeritus (Geography and Sustainable Development). During the past 45 years, Hans Hurni led his peers from a biophysical focus on soil and water conservation to a transdisciplinary focus on sustainable land management. For more than 10 years, he initiated and directed an international group of over 1200 researchers and implementers to help mitigate syndromes of global change in 40 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. He facilitated research exchanges between the global North and the global South. Nearly half of Hurni’s more than 250 publications focus on Ethiopia.
