Tilahun Amede is Country Representative and Principal Scientist in Natural Resources Management at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-arid Tropics (ICRISAT). He has a PhD in Eco-physiology from the University of Hohenheim, Germany. Dr. Tilahun was teaching at Hawassa University before joining the International Agricultural Research Centres (CGIAR). Before joining ICRISAT, he had a joint appointment at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), developing integrated solutions for improving water productivity and reducing land degradation in the Nile basin countries. He won various national and international awards, including citation as a Featured Scientist in the ‘Nourishing the Planet’ weekly, New York (2012). He is ‘Fellow of the International Society for Biological Science’ (2011) and Member of the New York Academy of Sciences. He has been conducting research in seven Eastern and Southern African countries, including Ethiopia, for over 20 years and has published extensively.
