Melesse Temesgen is an agricultural engineer and a hydrologist with a PhD in Agricultural Engineering /Hydrology and Water Resources from Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. Currently, he is General Manager of Aybar Engineering PLC. He has served as a researcher and Director of the National Agricultural Mechanization Research Directorate at the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research. He had taught at Addis Ababa Institute of Technology and Adama University. He has invented more than ten types of successfully tested agricultural implements, among which more than 130,000 units have been commercially manufactured and distributed throughout Ethiopia. For his innovations, he has won the first national award for outstanding achievement in Science and Technology, the 2014 special prize of African Innovation Foundation and first round global award of Securing Water for Food. He has publications in a number of peer-reviewed journals in his field.
