Gobena Ameni is Professor of Immunology/Microbiology at the Aklilu Lemma Institute of Pathobiology (Addis Ababa University), where he served for the last 17 years. He has a PhD in Immunology/Microbiology. He has served as external examiner of researches by DVM/MSc/PhD students in different local and international universities. Since 1997, he has been a principal investigator of several research projects on tuberculosis and related diseases, of which six projects were funded by the Ethiopian government while another four were supported by the Welcome Trust, NUFU, the Gates and Melinda Foundation, the National Institute of Health (NIH), and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, UK. Professor Gobena has authored and co-authored over 115 articles that were published on peer-reviewed journals of which over 70 have been indexed on PubMed. He has received various awards in recognition of his contributions in research output and capability building.
