Vacancy Announcement for a Administration and Finance Officer


The Ethiopian Academy of sciences provides evidence based policy advice to the Government and promotes scientific culture and innovation. The Academies objective is to improve the scientific and technological basis of the society for resolving important development issues.

In carrying out its responsibilities, the Academy responds to requests for advice concerning specific and generic issues in science and technology including education and research, influences action by initiating studies of issues that merit consideration by the Government and other stakeholders, identifies issues and topics for consensus studies, and cooperates with Governmental and Non-governmental organizations.

The scope of activities of the Academy covers all dimensions of science, including agriculture, engineering and technology, health, natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, performing arts and the letters.


The Administration and Finance Officer is responsible for providing effective and efficient financial and administrative services.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Ensures financial policies and procedures are implemented and regularly updated;

  • Develop mechanisms to ensure that operations of programs are implemented in cost effective manner;

  • Ensures that contract of staff members is renewed or discontinued timely;

  • Prepares procurement schedules for materials and services requested by the various units of the Academy;

  • Assist in all logistical issues from purchasing materials to organizing meetings, seminars or workshops;

  • Prepare and manage correspondences, appointments, reports and documents;

  • Organize and coordinate travel arrangements and hotel reservations, etc.;

  • Overseeing the provision of office equipment, utilities and facilities; and managing relations with suppliers;

  • Prepare all contractual agreements on behalf of the project;

  • Carries out other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director.


  • MA/MBA or/BA in Management/Business Administration/Public Administration or related fields

  • Experience: minimum 3 years for MA and 6 years for BA relevant work experience

Skill Requirement: Knowledge of computer operation is mandatory
